The Venue
The venue for me is the most important element of our wedding, next to the photos and video. So, because of that, I felt I had to see all of the options in person. I’m not a particularly controlling person, and while I am widely known to be indecisive, when it comes time to make an important decision, I make sure to be sure.
The Choices
Our, well at least my (Bree) ideal wedding would be at a private estate where our family could stay and continue to celebrate. In Jared’s words, he doesn’t want our wedding to be something you do on a Saturday.
So, when our venue search was unsuccessful in our part of the world, we decided to consider other places. Well, not really…there was only one other option. Long ago, we had to put my dream of an Italian villa wedding in the Tuscan countryside aside in favor of a more accessible destination for our guests.
While speaking to our wedding planner, Carrie, she directed us to some of her favorite wedding venues on her website. We had seen a place we liked with the first planner, which we ended up not hiring, and now Carrie was showing us the same location. It looked beautiful, idyllic, really. We felt like that would be the one. We did need to consider the other options as well. We decided to look into the private home option, and one other beautiful location recommended by a few people.
The Private Estate
We looked into rental homes on sites like Air BNB, VRBO, and a website recommended by our planner. Discovering that our wedding date apparently falls within what Hawaii considers “high peak season,” the rentals we liked were priced way out of reach.
The North Shore
While on our scouting trip, Mom and I took a trip to a private estate, which was beautiful except for a few things: 1) Our date wasn’t available; 2) the weather was less predictable on the North Shore, where this venue is; and 3) we were eaten alive by mosquitos with killer bites!

The One
Our venue is everything we wanted. We wanted a private ceremony, outdoors, overlooking the ocean. So, that is what we got. We are so thrilled to have gotten such a beautiful place to celebrate our special day. Because we want you to be pleasantly surprised, we won’t show you photos or tell you where it is just yet, but we cannot wait for you to see it!
